Overview
Some photographers may notice that the currency shown in their shop (what customers pay) is now different from the currency used for their GotPhoto subscription and platform fees. This is due to a cosmetic update that resolved a display inconsistency between shop and admin currency views. Billing and fees remain unchanged.
This article explains:
- The difference between shop currency and billing currency
- What was recently updated in the platform
- Where you will now see the correct currency displayed
- Why this does not affect how you were charged
This update only affects how currencies are displayed on admin pages where GotPhoto fees and other business charges are shown. Your billing remains unchanged.
What is the difference between shop currency and billing currency?
Your account can use two different currencies depending on your region and business setup.
Shop currency
The currency your customers use when purchasing photos or products in your online shop.
- Visible to your customers
- Used for product pricing and checkout
Billing currency
The currency used for your GotPhoto subscription and platform-related charges or bonuses:
- Used for subscription fees
- Used for platform services such as editing and retouching
- Shown on your invoices
These two currencies differ for photographers in Canada that joined GotPhoto prior to May 14, 2025 and are billed in USD and some UK accounts using a shop currency other than GBP.
What changed with the currency display?
Previously, some photographers saw their shop currency displayed on pages related to their own business costs.
This caused confusion because:
- Business-related pages showed the shop currency
- Invoices were issued in a different (correct) billing currency
The platform has now been updated to fix this discrepancy.
What is now corrected
- The billed currency is now displayed on all business and plan-related pages
- The shop currency is only visible in customer-facing shop areas
This ensures that the currency displayed always matches the type of transaction.
Where will I now see my billing currency?
The corrected billing currency is now shown consistently across all relevant business pages.
This update affects the following areas:
- Editing page amounts
- Bonus referral amounts
- Plan pricing
- Editing-on-upload costs
- Automated retouching costs
- Orders page (business-related costs)
- Order entry page
You will now see the currency you are actually billed in on all configuration and cost-related pages
Was I charged incorrectly?
No.
Billing has always been processed in the correct billing currency. The issue only affected how the currency was displayed on certain pages.
This update fixes the visual discrepancy. It does not change:
- Your subscription pricing
- Your past invoices
- Your actual billing currency
FAQs
Can I change my billing currency?
Billing currency is determined by your account setup and region. If you are a Canadian customer who joined us earlier than May 14, 2025, you are billed in USD. At this time, switching to CAD billing isn’t available. We’re exploring options to support this in the future.
Does this affect my customers?
No. Customers will continue to see and pay in your shop currency. This update only affects internal business cost displays.
When did this change go live?
The correction is now live for all affected customers (February 18, 2026).
The takeaway
If you noticed different currencies in your shop and on business-related pages, this was a display issue, not a billing error.
The platform now:
- Shows billing currency on subscription and cost-related pages
- Shows shop currency in customer-facing areas
Your invoices were always processed in the correct currency. The update simply ensures that what you see on the platform matches how you are billed.
