Overview
Index photos (also called "favorite photos" or "starred photos") serve multiple roles in your workflow:
- It’s the default photo included when you download a student data export.
- [Prepay only] It’s the photo used to fulfill prepay orders when more than one image exists per subject.
- It appears in the online shop banner if customers are asked to choose a favorite/yearbook/ID photo.
By default, the first image after the QR card is used as the index photo. This article shows how to manually assign a new index photo for a gallery and how to set a different cover photo for an album in single-access-code jobs.
Set a new index photo
The default index photo (marked with a star icon) is usually the first image after the hidden QR card.
If you use barcode tagging, the first image becomes the index by default.
To change the index photo:
- Go to the Photo Management tab in your Photo Job.
- Open the album you want to edit.
- Click the image you'd like to make the new index photo. A preview opens top-right with a star icon option.
- Click the star icon below the preview. The selected image is now the index photo.
⚠ Important: If a customer selects a favorite or yearbook photo, their choice overrides the photographer’s index photo. The customer’s pick will be marked with a heart icon. You can still override it for exports using student data export.
[Advanced] Index photo selection priority:
Customer selection (if enabled)
Photographer selection (via Photo Management)
5-star rating (first 5-star photo in gallery)
Default selection (after QR card or first in Entagged galleries)
To remove a current index photo, simply select a new one.
Set a new album cover photo [Single access code only]
[Prepay only] In single-access-code jobs (like group-only galleries), you can customize the cover photo for each album.
The first image becomes the default cover photo. To assign a new one:
- Open the Photo Management tab in your Photo Job.
- Select the album you want to update and open it.
- Click the image you want to set as the cover photo. The preview opens with a cover icon below it.
- Click the star icon. It becomes filled in and marked “Cover Photo”.
