Tag multiple subjects with the Entagged

Overview

For buddy and sibling shots, you can add multiple barcodes to a single image to ensure it appears in each subject's gallery. For groups of up to three subjects, you can do this on-shoot using the Entagged app. For groups of four or more subjects, this can be done using one or two workflows, depending on your preferred editing workflow.

1. For up to 3 subjects: Using the (+) button

This feature is disabled by default. You can enable it in the app settings: Menu → Entagged with gear icon → Your Entagged → Settings → toggle "Disable append code button" to OFF.

  1. At the top of the app's main screen, you'll find the current code or name saved to the camera. To the left of this, there’s a (+) button that toggles the function for appending codes on or off. Tap on the (+) to use this feature.

    1. Yellow (+): Appending is enabled, and new codes will be added to the existing ones when scanned/tapped. Use this for buddy or group shots, so all subjects’ codes are embedded in the photo metadata.
    2. Black (+): Appending is disabled. Scanning or tapping a new code will replace the previous one. Use this for individual shots.
  2. Scan the codes or tap the names (if using the Name List) of the subjects you want to photograph together. Photograph the group.
  3. To clear codes (e.g. to shoot the next shot or if you added the wrong one), tap the (x) button on the right, then scan or select the right codes before taking the next shot.
  4. Disabling the (+) button: If you don’t need this feature during a shoot, you may disable it in the settings: Menu → Entagged with gear icon → Your Entagged → Settings → Disable append code button. When disabled, the (+) button will be greyed out, and tapping it will display instructions to re-enable it.

2. For 4 or more subjects: Adding barcodes via editing software

If you're editing photos in software like Adobe Lightroom, you can manually add multiple barcodes to the photo's metadata. Here's how:

  1. Open the metadata editor for the selected photo(s) in your editing software.

  2. Locate the field where the barcode is entered:
    • Nikon & Fuji: UserComment (ExifTag 0x9286)
    • Canon: Copyright (ExifTag 0x8298)
    • Sony: ImageID (ExifTag 0x2043, exiftool calls it Sony_0x2043)
  3. Add a comma after the existing barcode, then add the additional barcode(s), separated by commas, without spaces. Example: 378275558736212,992718443532654,248919066121904

  4. Save your changes and export the photo as usual.
  5. Upload your image(s) to GotPhoto.

3. For 4 or more subjects: Adding Access Codes Manually in GotPhoto

If you’ve already uploaded your images to GotPhoto, you can still add additional barcodes (access codes) directly in the platform.

  1. Navigate to the relevant gallery in your GotPhoto account.

  2. Select the image to which you want to add more barcodes and click "Add access code" on the right, below the image.

  3. Manually add the additional access codes in the access code field, separated by commas, without spaces.

  4. Ensure all barcodes are correct and click save.

  5. The image will automatically appear in the selected subjects' galleries now.

Takeaway

To ensure group photos appear in each subject’s gallery, you can add multiple barcodes to a single image using one of these three workflows, depending on your group size and preference.
