Overview
You can offer customers the option to apply photo effects to their ordered photos. Photo effects are enabled by default and are managed from within your price lists. This guide shows you how to change and disable photo effects and how to expand galleries using automatic photo effects.
[Green Screen] If you are using GotPhoto’s background feature, effects can only be applied to JPGs, not PNGs.
Toggling photo effects on or off
Turn specific effects on or off for a given price list.
- Open the price list you want to adjust.
- Select Actions → Photo effects.
- Use the ON/OFF toggles to enable or disable individual effects as needed.
Disabling photo effects
Turn off all photo effects for a price list at once.
- Open the price list page.
- Toggle the ON/OFF switch in the Photo effects column to disable effects for that list.
Automatic photo effects
[Advanced] Enable automatic photo effects to generate additional copies with effects applied. This increases the number of photos per gallery and can boost engagement and sales.
If the feature is not enabled on your account, please contact support. When active, GotPhoto creates extra copies per access code with the selected effects applied. For example, uploading 5 originals with automatic B&W enabled results in 10 photos (5 originals + 5 B&W copies).
Only the original images display in the gallery…
…while the effect versions appear in the shop.
FAQs
Do photo effects work with green screen PNGs?
No. Effects apply to JPGs only. For green screen workflows, export/apply effects on JPG outputs, not PNGs.
Does the new shop support photo effects?
Photo effects are not yet supported in the new Online Shop 2025 edition.
Where do I enable or disable photo effects?
Open the relevant price list, then use Actions → Photo effects for per-effect toggles. Use the Photo effects column toggle on the price list overview to disable all effects for that list.
Will automatic photo effects clutter the gallery?
No. Only originals appear in the gallery; the effect versions are shown in the shop to customers.
The takeaway
Photo effects are enabled by default and managed per price list. Toggle individual effects, disable them completely if needed, or use automatic photo effects to expand your shop selection while keeping galleries clean.
