New GotPhoto Online Shop: Transition FAQ

This FAQ explains the transition to the New Shop: the timeline, what changes automatically, which features are supported, and current limitations.

The Timeline

Timeline of New Shop rollout dates for new and existing photo jobs, by region

The Transition

Is this the same new shop that has been available since 2025?

Yes. It is the same shop, continuously improved since its initial launch based on photographer feedback. There is nothing new to learn.

How does the new shop differ from the legacy shop?

The new shop keeps the familiar structure of the legacy shop, including packages, à la carte products, and pose selection per package. It also offers a cleaner experience when shopping for multiple subjects and is optimized for mobile devices, which account for more than 80% of shop traffic.

When will the switch happen?

Key transition dates:

  • US/CA: 27 July 2026 (new jobs), 10 August 2026 (existing legacy jobs)
  • UK: 4 August 2026 (new jobs), 18 August 2026 (existing legacy jobs)

The switch will happen automatically according to your region's rollout schedule. Your admin area will notify you before the transition and confirm when it has been completed.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for the switch?

No. The switch is automatic. Your admin area will notify you before and after the transition.

Can I continue using the legacy shop, or switch back after the transition?

No. From your region's deprecation date, all new photo jobs use the new shop only. Existing jobs remain on their current shop until their automatic switch date.

What will happen to my existing photo jobs that are still using the legacy shop?

They will switch automatically. Before the switch, your admin area will list the affected photo jobs. After the switch, you will receive a confirmation that all applicable jobs are using the new shop. Existing public jobs are excluded and will remain in the old shop.

Will parents who are mid-session be interrupted when the switch happens?

No. Parents who logged in before the switch can complete their session in the legacy shop. If they log in again after the switch, they will use the new shop. Items left in the legacy shop cart will not carry over.

Will I lose any features when the legacy shop is retired?

A small number of features work differently or are not yet available in the new shop: you can find the list here. Your admin area will identify affected photo jobs before the transition and suggest available alternatives. See Limitations in the New Shop for details.

Will anything change for photographers who handle fulfillment themselves?

No. Price lists with self-fulfilled items are fully supported.

What new features does the new shop include?

  • Professional Retouching, shown prominently at checkout
  • Yearbook selection deadline
  • Content protection to help prevent screenshots and unauthorized downloads
  • Pre-registration Quick Login Link
  • Abandoned Cart reminder
  • Clean and modern UI, optimized for mobile devices

Public and Global Access

I have photo jobs that use a public access code. What will happen to them?

Public-access photo jobs are not included in the automatic switch and will remain on the legacy shop until the end of the season. After that, you can archive the photo job or switch it to a Global Access Code so it works on the new shop.

Can I create new public photo jobs in the new shop?

Not in the way you used to set it up. The job type will no longer be supported for new jobs. As AI-powered tools continue to advance, publicly accessible galleries carry increasing privacy and security risks. A Global Access Code provides a similarly simple experience for parents while adding an important layer of protection.
However, if you have a specific use case where you prefer a public link for easy access (e.g., for collecting a session fee), you can apply this workaround:

  • Create the photo job using a Global Access Code (from August 3, you can also create it using One Access Code).
  • Use the Access Code Search to find the Quick Login Link for that access code.
  • Go to Online Shop > Pages & Menu and create a new page of the type External Link. Use the photo job's name as the page title and paste the Quick Login Link as the forwarding destination.
  • A new tab will appear in your online shop. When customers click this tab, they are automatically logged in and taken directly to all photos in the photo job.

Does the new shop support the Global Access Code?

Yes. The Global Access Code that grants schools and other clients easy access to all photos works in the new shop exactly as it did in the legacy shop. Please note that the additional features Global Connection Code and Find Your Access Code are not available in the new shop. The Global Access Code cannot be restricted to viewing only; parents will always be able to place orders. This behavior is unchanged.

Does the new shop support One Access Code jobs?

Yes, from August 3, 2026, the One Access Code access type is supported in the new shop. You can still create jobs of this type, and nothing changes in the shopping experience for parents.

If you need to create a new One Access Code photo job between July 27 and August 3, 2026 (United States and Canada), use the following workaround:

  • Set an access code per subject.
  • Add a Global Access Code to the photo job. You can find more detailed instructions here.

Your existing One Access Code photo jobs are not affected.

The album view is available for both One Access Code jobs and the Global Access Code.

Can orders from individual and Global Access Codes be combined?

Yes. This is fully supported. A previous issue affecting this functionality has been resolved.

Albums and photo visibility

How will separate albums, for example, for composites or magnets, work in the new shop?

Album view is not yet available for photo jobs using individual access codes. However, if you assign different price lists to individual albums, parents will still see the correct prices for each photo they select.

Photos from albums set to Available for everyone appear in the package selection and the à la carte section, where parents can find them using the group photo filter and pagination.

When will album viewing be available for individual access codes?

There is no timeline to share yet. This is something we would like to support in the future.

Are photos displayed with the same quality as in the legacy shop?

Yes. Image quality and clarity are the same. The option to zoom in on photos is not yet available.

Packages and Products

Can single-pose packages be restricted in the new shop?

Yes. If you restrict a package to a single pose, parents can only select one pose for all products in that package.

Can background choices be restricted for lower-priced packages?

Not yet. The option to restrict single-pose packages to a single background is not yet available in the new shop.

Will personalizable lab products, such as Trader Cards that require text input, be supported?

Yes. Personalizable lab products that require parents to enter text are supported in the new shop.

Are custom products from my own production supported in the new shop?

Yes, they are fully supported.

Can parents fill packages from their wishlist?

Parents can add photos to their wishlist and order à la carte items from it. The option to fill packages with photos from the wishlist is planned for a future update.

Prepay and Session Fees

How does the switch affect Prepay photo jobs?

Prepay photo jobs use a separate shop and are not affected by this change. You can continue to set up and manage Prepay jobs as before.

Will the session-fee collection workflow still be supported?

This workflow previously relied on public photo jobs. Since new public photo jobs are not supported in the new shop, you can instead collect the session fee through a photo job using One Access Code and set up a separate shop tab that can be accessed publicly. Here's the workflow:

  • Create the photo job using a Global Access Code (from August 3, you can also create it using One Access Code).
  • Use the Access Code Search to find the Quick Login Link for that access code.
  • Go to Online Shop > Pages & Menu and create a new page of the type External Link. Use the photo job's name (e.g. Session Fee Springfield Little League") as the page title and paste the Quick Login Link as the forwarding destination.
  • A new tab will appear in your online shop. When customers click this tab, they are automatically logged in and can buy the session fee product

Order History

Will parents be able to see their order history in the new shop?

Restoring parents' order history in the new shop is not currently planned. We appreciate your feedback on this.

Will my order histories and invoicing be affected by the shop transition?

No. Your order history and invoicing remain unchanged.

Retouching

Can photographers offer retouching in the new shop?

Yes. The Professional Retouching product is shown prominently at checkout. You can handle retouching yourself or use GotPhoto's AI-powered retouching service, with three retouching levels available and an optional review step. Learn more here: Offer the Professional Retouching add-on in GotPhoto

Content Protection and SnapShield

Is screenshot and content protection available on mobile devices?

Yes. Long-press actions on mobile devices are disabled in the new shop. Parents must confirm a content protection notice before accessing the shop. You can manage this setting in your admin area under Online Shop > Shop Settings > Content Protection.

Do I need to update my SnapShield settings for the new shop?

Yes. SnapShield does not update automatically if you have only used it in the legacy shop until now. Enter your SnapShield embed key in your GotPhoto admin area under Online Shop > Shop Settings > Content Protection, select SnapShield, enter your embed key, and click Save.

Branding and Customization

When will options to customize button colors and other branding elements be available?

There is no timeline to share yet. We are prioritizing shop stability and improvements that enhance the shopping experience for parents and help drive sales. Additional customization options may be added at a later stage.

Is custom HTML still supported?

No. Custom HTML is not supported in the new shop, and there is no timeline for adding it. We are prioritizing changes with a greater impact on shop stability, sales, and the customer experience.

Pre-Registration

Can pre-registration still be used with the new shop?

Yes. The new shop includes an updated pre-registration page optimized for both desktop and mobile.

Limitations and Unsupported Features

What happens to free download products in my price list?

Free downloads are not yet supported in the new shop. The option will be removed from the price list. As a workaround, you can add a digital download product and set its price to zero.

Will automatic photo effects applied on upload still work?

Not yet. This setting will be hidden, and automatic effects will not be applied in the new shop. However, you can still offer photo effects in your shop for customers to select. This feature has not changed.

Will Google Analytics still track my shop?

The Google Analytics field in your admin area will be greyed out as it is currently not supported in the new shop.
