Adding a watermark to your proofing shop is a crucial step in safeguarding your hard work and creativity. It does so by discouraging unauthorized downloads and preserving the value of your images. While GotPhoto applies a default watermark to your images, personalizing your watermark is an opportunity to add your brand into the mix. In this article, we'll review how to add your own watermark to your images within GotPhoto.
Default Watermark
NEW (December 2023): We've added two AI-resistant watermarks to your account — one black & white, and one colorful. While we cannot guarantee they are foolproof, they have stood up to extensive testing against various AI-based watermark software.
The images below show the watermarked images (Before), and an AI attempt to remove them (After):

The black & white design is the default watermark for all new photo jobs, where you select a new job type.
For your convenience, once you apply a custom watermark to a job of a specific type, all future jobs of that same type will automatically inherit your custom watermark, streamlining your workflow without additional effort on your part.

Creating Your Own Watermark
Create a watermark file as a PNG with a transparent background in your preferred software.

Uploading a Watermark to Your Account
You can add your new watermark on the Watermarks Page. The Watermarks Page can be found by clicking into the Settings tab, and then clicking on Watermarks under Photo Handling in the navigation menu on the lefthand side.
Click the blue + Add new watermark button to upload your watermark:
On the following screen, you can name, upload, and adjust your watermark.
When you are finished, click Save.
Your watermark has been uploaded to your GotPhoto account! In the next step, we will review how to apply an uploaded watermark to a photo job.
Applying a Watermark to a Photo Job
Once you have uploaded a watermark, you can apply it to any of your photo jobs.
- Open the photo job and navigate to the Photo Management tab.
- Under Step 1, select the watermark you want to use for this job.
- Select the blue Preview watermark hyperlink on the right to preview the watermark.
- To create a new watermark, click on Settings → Watermark.
Change Your Watermark Later
Watermarks on already uploaded pictures can be changed at any time. Keep in mind that changing watermarks after upload takes more time than adding them during upload. This is because the preview images must be regenerated.
If you want to apply a new watermark to uploaded pictures, simply go to the job's Photo Management area and select the new watermark from the dropdown menu there.
If the new watermark isn't displayed after 10 minutes, you may need to force a hard refresh of the page. This can be done by clicking Ctrl + F5 or Shift + F5, depending on your browser.
