Overview
If a customer unsubscribed from your emails in a previous season, they will not receive notifications in future jobs unless you manually resubscribe them. This applies even if you re-import their data or they register through the shop’s reminder form.
The issue
When a customer opts out of emails, GotPhoto blocks them from receiving:
- Email newsletters and notifications for future jobs
- Order and customer information emails
Re-importing their data does not override this setting. They must be resubscribed manually in your admin area.
The solution
You can manually resubscribe a customer through the admin dashboard:
- Use the search bar (magnifying glass icon in the top bar) to look up the customer’s email.
- Filter search results by selecting Customers and entering their email address.
- Click on the customer’s email to open their overview page.
- From the Actions menu, select Edit customer.
- On the edit screen, check both boxes:
- Receives email newsletters and notifications
- Receives order and customer information
- Click Save to confirm.
Optional: resubscribe form
Use a resubscribe form
A practical workaround is to create a simple Google Form and share it with the school or league before Picture Day. They can include it in their communication or announcements, allowing parents to provide their contact information if they previously unsubscribed or are unsure of their status.
This proactive step increases the chances of reaching all parents, maintains compliance with data privacy, and helps ensure no one misses future updates.
The takeaway
Customers who unsubscribe remain opted out across all future jobs. You must resubscribe them manually or provide a proactive method (like a resubscribe form) to capture their consent again. This ensures they continue receiving important notifications and order updates.
