Upselling: Make Product Packages Mandatory

Overview

With this function, you can prevent your customers from only purchasing individual products (a la carte). This is helpful if you want to offer cheap individual products or to achieve a minimum shopping cart value for each order. In this article, we'll review how to set up this functionality.

Setting Up Mandatory Product Packages

The video below shows a quick explanation for setting up this feature.
Written instructions continue below.

Within each price list you will find the option under Actions → Settings. This needs to be applied for each price list; it is not a universal setting (Useful if you only want to use it for certain jobs and not others).

Apply per access code Settings:

  • When enabled, customers must purchase at least one package per access code. When the same customer places a second order for the same job, they must be logged in to their customer account, so the system can identify their customer ID, as shown in the sample photo below.

If a customer uses the same access code but is not logged into their account, they’ll need to purchase a package again. This applies across all jobs linked to that access code.

  • When disabled, only one package is required per order, regardless of how many access codes are used.

 Examples:

Prepay+ & Proofing: If a parent has already purchased a package during the Prepay stage of the same job using the same access code and they log into the proofing shop with the email that is linked to the order, they are NOT required to buy the package again when entering the proofing shop using the same credentials.

Shopping Across Jobs: If a customer is logged into their shop account and has purchased a package from last year's proofing job using the same access code (we typically do NOT recommend re-using access codes), they are NOT required to buy a package again.

Multiple Buyers for the Same Access Code: If a parent purchases a package using the same access code but does not log into their account, or another parent or guardian uses the same access code to log in, they ARE required to purchase the package again.

Adding individual products to the cart will not be possible if there is not at least one product package in the cart first.

Once a package has been added to the cart, the hints, and restrictions will disappear.

The Takeaway

Increase your average order value by implementing mandatory product packages, preventing customers from purchasing only individual items. While this strategy may lead to a potential decrease in immediate sales, it ensures a minimum shopping cart value for each order, providing an opportunity for upselling and maximizing revenue.
