Dance Pricing Best Practices: À la carte products (#1)

Building a new price profile from scratch? Start here! We always recommend starting with your à la carte items first, then moving on to your packages.

With all the costumes and poses for customers to pick from, we’ve seen our dance photographers do incredibly well when they offer customers a mix of prints, gifts, canvases, and specialty keepsake items to capture every moment. Let's get started.

Prints

Prints are typically the most popular selling item because they are a picture day tradition and they’re also incredibly versatile - customers can buy prints to hang on their wall, send to relatives, or carry around in their wallet.

A range of 5-8 print products gives your customers variety, without overwhelming them with too many choices.

Stick with popular sizes, like 8x10s, 5x7s, and wallets.

Here’s a good example of the à la carte print products we would include in our dance price profile:

  • 8x10 - individual
  • 8x10 - group
  • 5x7
  • 4x6 or 4x5
  • 8 wallets
  • 4 wallets

Gifts

Gifts are fun items to add to any price profile. Customers will be excited to browse the gift section for fun novelty item(s) they can add to their order.

We recommend including anywhere between 5-7 gift items in your price profile.

Gift options will vary by lab, but here’s a sample of some of the gift products we like to offer:

  • Button
  • Coasters
  • Keychain
  • Magnets
  • Mousepad
  • Mug
  • Ornament
  • Photo with keepsake frame

Canvases, Finishes, & Specialty Items

Dance photos, with all the poses and costumes, are truly like works of art. This means that larger, specialty, and keepsake items, like canvasses, metallic prints, and panels do incredibly well in a dance job.

Choose 2-5 of these larger, specialty items for your price profile.

Each lab will carry its own variation of these products, but here are our top picks:

  • Photo with keepsake frame
  • 8x10 Metallic print
  • 8x8 Wood panel
  • 11x14 Canvas wrap
